How to Use a Double Ended Dildo?

If you’ve ever shopped for dildos, odds are you’ve spotted a double ended dildo. There’s also a decent chance you spotted it and thought, “good god! What is that thing!” because, frankly, to the uninitiated, they can be a little intimidating. Designed for dual penetration and featuring two insertable ends, the double penetration dildo is unique and wonderful, but it can also be pretty daunting at first glance.

Have no fear, we’re here to walk you through the world of double dildos. We’re going to talk about what they are, how they work, what types are available, how to choose one, and how to use one! So, get ready, folks, today, we are doubling down on double dildos!

What Is A Double Ended Dildo?

As we mentioned earlier, a double ended dildo is a dildo with two insertable ends. They are longer than conventional dildos so as to facilitate use between partners or solo double penetration use. There are many different double ended dildos available, but they mainly fall into three categories, so let’s take a look at those.

Double Ended Dildos

These tend to be the thing that first comes to mind when you think of a double sided dildo. A long shaft with an insertable portion at each end. They can be very long, like the Rusé Slim 18 Inch Silicone Double Dildo. They can feature two identical penetrating ends or, like the Silicone AC/DC Double Dildo, have one end that is smaller and might be more comfortable for anal penetration. These long double ended dildos are designed to effectively penetrate (vaginally or anally) two separate partners or to be bent in the middle, allowing them to be used for simultaneous vaginal and anal penetration by a single user.

Double Headed Dildos

A double headed dildo, on the other hand, is built differently. Imagine, if you will, a single dildo, then picture another, more slender dildo rising up from the base. Instead of a long toy with two heads on opposite ends, a double sided dildo, looks more like two dildos set up with one in front of the other. Often-- but not always--designed to resemble a pair of realistic penises, like in the case of The Naturals Double Penetrator, double headed dildos are designed to allow the user to penetrate their vagina and anus simultaneously.

Strapless Strap-ons

There’s one more type of toy that fits in this category, although it works a bit differently, and that is the strapless strap on. So, yes, this is technically a dildo with two insertable ends but the difference is that it is designed for strap on play, meaning that one user, the wearer, will be using it to penetrate their partner. Most strapless strap-ons, like the Rechargeable Love Rider Strapless Strap-On, feature one end that is a full-sized dildo intended for penetrating the partner on the receiving end and a second, significantly smaller end that looks more like a bulb that is designed to sit in the vagina of the wearer. This is not always the case, though. Some strapless strap ons, like the Ouch! Silicone Strapless Strap-On, looks like two separate full sized dildos fused at the base.

Something to keep in mind is that while these sex toys are generally referred to as “strapless strap-ons”, many users find holding the toy in place with their vaginal muscles to be a bit tricky. This is why it is not uncommon for a so-called strapless strap-on to be paired with a harness to hold it securely in place during use.

How To Choose A Double Ended Dildo?

So, how do you choose the right double ended dildo for you? The good news is, now that you know the different types of dildos and what they work best for, you can zero in on what you want just by acknowledging what you want to use your toy for.

Do you want to simultaneously penetrate and stimulate two separate partners? Great! A double ended dildo will probably be right for you!

Do you want to experiment with double penetration, using one toy to penetrate both the vagina and anus? Terrific! In your case a double headed dildo might be the way to go, also, some of the longer, very flexible double ended dildos might also fit the bill.

Do you want something that you can wear to actively penetrate a partner? Fabulous! In this case, you probably want a strapless strap on!

Beyond that you want to think about the same things you think about when selecting any kind of sex toy:

  • Budget: How much do you want to spend? Double ended dildos are available at a huge range of prices. You can spend less than $20 or more than $300! Knowing your ideal price point can help you find the right one for you.

  • Material: Adult sex toys are made out of so many materials, and it helps to know what you would prefer. Most double dildos are made of soft materials like silicone, TPE, or TPR, but some -- usually shorter ones-- are made with glass or steel. Choose a material that feels good, appeals to you visually, and requires a level of upkeep you are willing to commit to.

  • Size & Shape: As I just mentioned, steel and glass double dildos tend to be significantly shorter so, if you know you need something longer, that rules out those. Do you want a anal sex toys that is designed to resemble a penis or not? Additionally, know what size each user is comfortable with inserting in their body. You might want a toy where one end is thinner/smaller than the other. Beyond that, look at the variety of sizes and shapes available to you and select something that lines up with your needs.

  • Features: For the bulk of double ended dildos this won’t be a huge concern as most are pretty straightforward. The big exception here is strapless strap ons. These can come with features like vibration, poseable shafts, or remote controls.
  •

Something to think about if you intend to use your double ended dildo with a partner, if that, it probably makes sense for them to be involved in the selection process. Your partner probably has their own preferences in terms of material, size, shape, etc and bringing them in on the shopping process will help make sure you end up with a toy everyone enjoys.

How To Use A Double Ended Dildo?

When it comes to how to use your double ended dildo the answer really depends on the type you buy and how you wish to use it. There is one piece of advice that I stick by, no matter what type of double dildo you are using or how you are using it: USE LOTS OF LUBE.

    Remember to use lube

I cannot stress this enough, any dildo experience will be made better, more comfortable, and more pleasurable with the addition of personal lubricant. The choice is up to you but I recommend a good thick water based formula like PinkCherry Water Based Lubricant as it will get along well with most toy materials and can provide a nice cushiony feel that will keep everyone’s bits comfortable. If you are experimenting with anal play, it can help to use something like the PinkCherry Syringe Lube Applicator Set to make sure the anus stays nice and slippery (because, FYI, anuses cannot self-lubricate like vaginas can).

    How to use it alone

When using a double ended toy alone, you have the option to explore double penetration by inserting the anal end and then slowly easing the vaginal end into place or, you can insert one end and use the other as a handle to maneuver the toy.

How to use it with a partner

If you want to use a double ended toy with a partner, work together to find different positions that allow everyone to be comfortably penetrated with their own end of the toy. This might require a bit of experimentation but that should be a fun process. Sometimes sex is kind of hilarious, and navigating arms, legs, genitals, and butts while trying to use a double dildo can be one of those hilarious moments.

How to use the strapless strap on

If you are experimenting with a strapless strap on, remember the name can be something of a misnomer and you might be more comfortable if you add a harness to the equation.

    Don’t forget to clean it

Be sure to take proper care of your double ended dildos including washing them thoroughly with the right sex toy cleaners after each use. This is always a must but it is especially important to keep in mind when talking about toys that might be used in the anus and vagina

That’s the story on double ended dildos! They can be daunting at first but once you get the lay of the land, they are just another fun way to explore!
